about
I wrote this in the summer of 2012 after being involved in an intense round of anti-frack activism during which I didn't look at a map and became convinced that Oberlin's reservoir was going to be poisoned. Really it was just Elyria, not us. This is one of those songs that never felt finished until one day we played it and it was finished.
-Mattis
lyrics
hello neighbor don't you know there's gas beneath your ground
here's a lease that you can sign, there's money drilling down
hello neighbor don't you know they're drilling down the road
the river's black and blacker where they unload
river runs with frackwater
smoke as black as oil
suits as black as coal
reservoir frackwater
